Castorimorpha is the suborder of rodents containing the beavers, gophers and the kangaroo rats. A 2017 study using retroposon markers indicated that they are most closely related to the Anomaluromorpha (the scaly-tailed squirrels and the springhare) and Myomorpha (mouse-like rodents).{{cite journal |last1=Doronina |first1=Liliya |last2=Matzke |first2=Andreas |last3=Churakov |first3=Gennady |last4=Stoll |first4=Monika |last5=Huge |first5=Andreas |last6=Schmitz |first6=Jürgen |title=The beaver’s phylogenetic lineage illuminated by retroposon reads |journal=Scientific Reports |date=3 March 2017 |volume=7 |issue=1 |doi=10.1038/srep43562|doi-access=free|pmc=5335264 }}
