McMurdo Station is an exploration and science outpost on Ross Island, Antarctica. It was established in 1955, and is located at the southern end of Hut Point Peninsula with Scott Base. It is the northern end of South Pole Traverse, a seasonal snow and ice road to the South Pole and there is several airfields in the area.
