Category:Pages using US Census population needing update
{{tracking category}}
{{polluted category}}
This category tracks articles using {{tl|US Census population}} that have one of two slightly different conditions:
- A value for {{para|estimate}} but no value for {{para|2020}}. The best way to fix this problem is to insert a value for the 2020 population of the place listed in the template. [https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045221 US Census QuickFacts] provides a fast search box; look for the line labeled "Population, Census, April 1, 2020". If the estimate in the template is dated prior to 2020, remove it or replace it with a post-2020 estimate.
- A value for {{para|2020}} along with a (stale) pre-2020 value for {{para|estyear}}. In those cases, since the {{para|2020}} value supersedes the estimate, the pre-2020 estimate should be removed, or replaced with a post-2020 estimate.
It is acceptable for places, such as places that are no longer inhabited or listed in the US Census, to lack a 2020 population value as long as they do not have a population estimate. The final value in the table should be the final official US Census population value.
To exclude an article from this category because it is no longer a census-designated place in the US Census (the Census instructions call this a "deleted" place, e.g. ghost towns, merged towns, deorganized places), add {{para|deleted|yes}} to this template in the article.
