Early beginnings

The group was formed in 1984{{cite news|last1=Williams|first1=Owen|title=Geoffrey Lewis 1935-2015|url=http://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/geoffrey-lewis-1935-2015/|accessdate=22 February 2017|publisher=Empire}} and was originally known as The Great American Entertainment Show. According to Lewis, he was inspired by a trip to Africa and the attention storytellers received, and therefore started to envision his own stories to tell.{{cn|date=May 2021}}
