History
An early variant name was "Bascobel".{{cite book | url=http://www.kenkrakow.com/gpn/c.pdf | title=Georgia Place-Names: Their History and Origins | publisher=Winship Press | author=Krakow, Kenneth K. | year=1975 | location=Macon, GA | pages=37 | isbn=0-915430-00-2}} A post office called Bascobel was established in 1826, the name was changed to Center in 1899, and the post office closed in 1958.{{cite web | url=https://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?state=GA | title=Post Offices | publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=7 April 2018}} The present name is after one Mr. Center, a railroad agent. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place in 1906 as the "Town of Center".{{cite book|title=Acts and Resolutions of the General Assembly of the State of Georgia|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=7O1WE39KVe4C&pg=PA621|year=1906|publisher=Clark & Hines, State Printers|page=621}} The town's charter was formally dissolved in 1995.
