Established in 2020, the park has an area at time of foundation of {{convert|351.16|sqkm|sqmi}}, corresponding exactly to that of the former {{nihongo|Chūō Alps Prefectural Natural Park|中央アルプス県立自然公園}}, founded on 22 November 1951, which it supersedes and replaces.{{cite web|url=https://www.protectedplanet.net/555720621|title=Chuo alps|website=Protected Planet|accessdate=2021-06-11}} The Park's central feature is the Central Alps.
