Political career

Charles Milupi stood as an independent member of parliament (MP) for Luena constituency at the 2006 general election and won the seat.

On 14 May 2010, Milupi established his own party known as Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD){{Cite web |date=2010-05-15 |title=Zambia : Milupi gives up seat, joins ADD |url=https://www.lusakatimes.com/2010/05/15/milupi-seat-joins-add/ |access-date=2024-09-03 |website=Lusaka Times |language=en-GB}} and thus could no-longer be an independent candidate. A by-election was held for the Luena MP seat, with Milupi contesting as the candidate for his newly-formed political party. He won the by-election and retained his parliamentary seat up until the end of the term in 2011.{{Cite web |date=2010-08-06 |title=Zambia : Milupi wins Luena seat on his party ticket |url=https://www.lusakatimes.com/2010/08/06/milupi-wins-luena-seat-party-ticket/ |access-date=2024-09-03 |website=Lusaka Times |language=en-GB}} He participated in the 2011 general election as the presidential candidate for his party{{Cite web |date=2011-05-28 |title=Zambia : Charles Milupi to go it alone and contest presidency |url=https://www.lusakatimes.com/2011/05/28/charles-milupi-contest-presidency/ |access-date=2025-04-19 |language=en-GB}}{{Cite web |date=2011-08-13 |title=Zambia : It's ten presidential candidates for 2011 elections |url=https://www.lusakatimes.com/2011/08/13/ten-presidential-candidates-2011-elections/ |access-date=2025-04-19 |language=en-GB}} and got the fourth-highest amount of votes in a field of ten candidates with 0.9% of the vote.[https://www.elections.org.zm/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/2011-Presidential-Election-Results.pdf 2011 Presidential Election Results - Electoral Commission of Zambia]
