Early life
Charles Porion was born on 1 May 1814 in Amiens.{{Cite book|title=PORION, Charles or Louis Étienne Charles (born 1814), Painter|volume=1|publisher=Oxford University Press|doi=10.1093/benz/9780199773787.article.B00144672|year=2011}} He was trained by Michel Martin Drolling and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres.
Career
Porion came second at the 1840 Prix de Rome.{{cite book|last1=Grunchec|first1=Philippe|title=Les concours des Prix de Rome, 1797-1863 / Tome II, Pièces d'archives et œuvres documentées|date=1989|publisher=École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts|location=Paris|isbn=9782903639600|oclc=769782561}} He exhibited at the Salon from 1844 to 1868, where he won a bronze medal in 1844. He became a knight of the Légion d'Honneur in 1884.
