Charles Anthony Swainson (1820–1887) was an English Anglican theologian, Principal of Chichester Theological College,{{cite web|url=http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=182-ep_3&cid=-1 |title=Access to Archives |publisher=The National Archives |date= |accessdate=2012-08-12}} Norrisian Professor of Divinity, and subsequently Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity, Master of Christ's College, Cambridge, and a canon of Chichester.{{acad|id=SWN837CA|name=Swainson, Charles Anthony}} His published works deal mainly with the Eastern liturgies and the creeds.

Life

He was the second son of Anthony Swainson of Liverpool, a merchant and brother of Charles Swainson of Preston.{{cite book |title=Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry |date=1882 |page=1552 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=WLVCAQAAMAAJ&pg=PA1552 |language=en |last1=Burke |first1=Bernard }} He was educated at the Royal Institution of Liverpool's school, and matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1837, graduating BA in 1841, MA in 1844, and DD in 1864.{{acad|id=SWN837CA|name=Swainson, Charles Anthony}}
