History

The settlement evolved around an inn built in the late 18th century. As Hebzie it was first mentioned in 1844. The Gute Hoffnung zinc smelter was opened in 1822; the Morgenroth smelter began to operate in 1925.

During the German occupation of Poland (World War II), the Germans established and operated the E83 forced labour subcamp of the Stalag VIII-B/344 prisoner-of-war camp in the settlement.{{cite web|url=https://www.lamsdorf.com/working-parties.html|title=Working Parties|website=Lamsdorf.com|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201029103834/https://www.lamsdorf.com/working-parties.html|accessdate=9 May 2021|archive-date=29 October 2020}}

After World War II Chebzie belonged to gmina Godula, but was split off and merged into Nowy Bytom in 1951,{{Cite Polish law|title=Rozporządzenie Rady Ministrów z dnia 17 marca 1951 r. w sprawie zniesienia i zmiany granic niektórych powiatów oraz utworzenia i zmiany granic niektórych miast, stanowiących powiaty miejskie w województwie katowickim.|year=1951|volume=18|number=147}} and as part of Nowy Bytom was amalgamated with Ruda to form Ruda Śląska on December 31, 1958.{{Cite Polish law|title=Rozporządzenie Rady Ministrów z dnia 18 listopada 1958 r. w sprawie utworzenia miasta Ruda Śląska stanowiącego powiat miejski w województwie katowickim.|year=1958|volume=69|number=342}}
