Chemult station is an Amtrak train station in Chemult, Oregon. It is not staffed and only consists of a platform structure and a warming shelter, which replaced a smaller structure in 2010.
History
Chemult was originally a station on the Southern Pacific Cascade Line, with regular service by the Klamath and limited service by the Cascade.{{cite web |title=Time Tables |date= January 15, 1954|url=http://streamlinermemories.info/SP/SP54TT.pdf |publisher=Southern Pacific |accessdate=November 20, 2021 |pages=28–29}} The station became a stop on the Coast Starlight in 1980.{{cite web |title=Timetable |url=http://www.timetables.org/full.php?group=19800803&item=0050 |website=The Museum of Railway Timetables |publisher=Amtrak |access-date=November 20, 2021 |page=49 |date=August 3, 1980}}{{cite web |title=Amtrak National Train Timetables |url=http://www.timetables.org/full.php?group=19801026&item=0051 |website=The Museum of Railway Timetables |publisher=Amtrak |access-date=November 20, 2021 |page=50 |date=October 26, 1980}}
A new Chemult station was built on the site in 2010. The old structure, which was uninsulated and therefore too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter, had been the subject of much criticism for being too small.{{cite news|last=Chiang|first=Chuck|title=Proposed Chemult, Ore., Amtrak station could boost area tourism, officials say|work=Bend Bulletin|date=June 14, 2006}} The new station cost $600,000 and was built in the Cascadian architecture style.{{cite web|url=http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION4/Pages/chemult_train_station/Chemult_Train_Station.aspx|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121008005726/http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION4/Pages/chemult_train_station/Chemult_Train_Station.aspx|url-status=dead|archive-date=October 8, 2012|title=Chemult Train Station/Welcome Center Project|publisher=Oregon Department of Transportation|accessdate=December 19, 2018}} Construction began in May 2010 and was completed in November, in time for a November 10 opening.
