Its headquarters are at Chibombo, and it lies between the Lukanga Swamp in the west and the end of the Luangwa Valley in the east. It includes good commercial farmland north of Lusaka. Most of the people occupying this place are low-scale commercial farmers. Chibombo has attracted the interest of people from more developed areas of the country like Lusaka, and the Copperbelt province. File:Mi3462ne.jpg
The sparsely populated district still recognises a traditional hierarchy of leadership. They have a Chief and many Headmen who look after the smaller constituent villages.{{Cite journal|last1=Tiwari|first1=Amy|last2=Russpatrick|first2=Scott|last3=Hoehne|first3=Alexandra|last4=Matimelo|first4=Selma M.|last5=Mazimba|first5=Sharon|last6=Nkhata|first6=Ilenga|last7=Osbert|first7=Nicolas|last8=Soloka|first8=Geoffrey|last9=Winters|first9=Anna|last10=Winters|first10=Benjamin|last11=Larsen|first11=David A.|date=2017-11-08|title=Assessing the Impact of Leveraging Traditional Leadership on Access to Sanitation in Rural Zambia|journal=The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene|volume=97|issue=5|pages=1355–1361|doi=10.4269/ajtmh.16-0612|issn=0002-9637|pmc=5817733|pmid=29016281}}
