History

The Extreme Football League (X League) was announced in December 2019, as a successor to the Legends Football League (LFL).{{cite press release |url=https://extfl.com/xwire/xwire/ |title=A NEW ERA IN WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT, THE X LEAGUE |website=extfl.com |date=December 17, 2019 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200114162543/https://extfl.com/xwire/xwire/ |archive-date=January 14, 2020 |via=Wayback Machine}} The announcement included the Blitz, a successor to the LFL's Chicago Bliss. The X League's 2020 season was postponed, and the league also did not operate during 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Blitz first competed during the 2022 X League season, winning both of their regular season games, over the Kansas City Force and Seattle Thunder. The Blitz advanced to the postseason, where they again defeated Seattle to advance to the X Cup championship match against the Atlanta Empire.{{cite web |url=https://xleague.live/playoffs-saturday-seattle-thunder-vs-chicago-blitz-game-preview/ |title=Playoffs Saturday: Seattle Thunder vs Chicago Blitz Game Preview |website=xleague.live |date=August 23, 2022 |accessdate=February 26, 2023}}{{cite tweet |user=GrdironBeauty |number=1564631700893728768 |title=It's was a classic battle. |date=August 30, 2022 |accessdate=February 26, 2023}} On September 10, the Blitz defeated the Empire, 19–12, to win the league's inaugural championship.{{cite web |url=https://xleague.live/x-cup-2022-game-preview-chicago-blitz-vs-atlanta-empire/ |title=X Cup 2022 Game Preview: Chicago Blitz Vs Atlanta Empire |website=xleague.live |date=September 8, 2022 |accessdate=February 26, 2023}}{{cite web |url=https://xleague.live/chicago-holds-on-in-a-defensive-battle-to-capture-historic-x-cup-championship/ |title=Chicago Holds on in a defensive Battle to Capture Historic X Cup Championship |website=xleague.live |date=September 13, 2022 |accessdate=February 26, 2023 |archive-date=February 26, 2023 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230226220017/https://xleague.live/chicago-holds-on-in-a-defensive-battle-to-capture-historic-x-cup-championship/ |url-status=dead }}
