Located in Caddo County, Oklahoma, it was completed in 1958. The main purposes were supplying water (especially to the city of Chickasha) and for recreation.[https://www.owrb.ok.gov/studies/reports/reports_pdf/ChickashaHydrographicSurvey.pdf "Chickasha Lake Hydrographic Survey Report." Oklahoma Water Resources Board.(ORWB). October 31, 2011.] Accessed January 31, 2019. The lake is about {{convert|9|miles|km}} west of Chickasha, and is owned and operated by that city.[https://traveltips.usatoday.com/lakes-caddo-county-ok-63016.html Morgan, Hazel. "Lakes in Caddo County, OK." USA Today. 2018] Accessed January 31, 2019.

A 2011 survey showed that the lake has a surface area of {{convert|2068.6|acres|km2}} a capacity of {{convert|41080|acre-feet|m3}} of water when filled to an elevation of {{convert|1192|feet|m}}. The mean depth was {{convert|16.65|feet|m}} and the maximum depth was {{convert|38.2|feet}}. It also has 10 miles of shoreline.[http://www.outdoorsok.com/oklahoma/chickasha/ "Lake Chickasha, Oklahoma." OutdoorsOK. Undated.] Accessed April 10, 2019.

The lake is fed by multiple streams, but primarily Spring Creek on the west arm and Stinking Creek on the east arm.{{cite web|url= https://www.chickasha.org/DocumentCenter/View/308/Lake-Chickasha-Map-PDF?bidId= |title=Chickasaw Lake|publisher=City of Chickasha|accessdate=August 2, 2021}}

Spring Creek

The Spring Creek that feeds Lake Chickasha originates east of Salyer Lake and just south of Oklahoma State Highway 152 in Caddo County.{{cite web|url= https://www.google.com/maps/place/Salyer+Lake/@35.3336638,-98.2077608,16z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x87adc127b32e6fff:0xa8fe0b3158a099f9!8m2!3d35.3328575!4d-98.2095076!5m1!1e4?hl=en-US |title=Salyer Lake, Oklahoma|publisher=Google Maps|accessdate=August 2, 2021}} It travels generally south and slightly to the east{{cite web|url= https://www.mapquest.com/latlng/35.334872,-98.187248?zoom=10 |title=(Origin of Spring Creek at 35.334872,-98.187248 south-southeast to Lake Chickasha)|publisher=Mapquest|accessdate=August 2, 2021}} until impounded by the lake. Spring Creek then continues at the south end of the lake, traveling south-southeast to its mouth on the Washita River.{{cite web|url= https://www.mapquest.com/latlng/35.102258827278966,-98.10689091682434?zoom=12 |title=(Spring Creek from Lake Chickasha south-southeast to Joinder with Washita at 35.102258827278966,-98.10689091682434) |publisher=Mapquest|accessdate=August 2, 2021}}

This creek is not to be confused with at least five other creeks in Oklahoma with the “Spring Creek” name,{{cite web|url= https://tulsaworld.com/archive/oklahoma-creeks-share-common-names/article_bcbdfef8-e079-51ec-a330-fd32461232a1.html |title=Oklahoma creeks share common names |publisher=Bob Bledsoe, Tulsa World, February 2, 1989|accessdate=August 2, 2021}} nor with numerous other watercourses named Spring Creek in other states and countries.

Stinking Creek

Stinking Creek originates east of Spring Creek and south of SH-152, at a point south of Cogar, Oklahoma.{{cite web|url= https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cogar,+OK+73059/@35.3119464,-98.1341305,15.56z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x87adea80e5750de9:0xf0a10943cab10b!8m2!3d35.333889!4d-98.130278!5m1!1e4?hl=en-US |title=Cogar, Oklahoma|publisher=Google Maps|accessdate=August 2, 2021}} It flows generally south{{cite web|url= https://www.mapquest.com/latlng/35.311441,-98.127457?zoom=10 |title=(Origin of Stinking Creek at 35.311441,-98.127457 south to Lake Chickasha)|publisher=Mapquest|accessdate=August 2, 2021}} for 12 miles through Caddo County{{cite web|url= https://19january2017snapshot.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2015-10/documents/ok_stinking.pdf |title= Installing Best Management Practices Improves Dissolved Oxygen Levels in Oklahoma’s Stinking Creek|publisher=United States Environmental Protection Agency|accessdate=August 2, 2021}} until impounded at Lake Chickasha. It does not continue past the lake.

Despite the name, the water in Stinking Creek was found in 2012 to have improved enough to meet state dissolved oxygen criteria for support of warm-water aquatic communities, after implementation of best management practices in the watershed.
