Chiloglottis truncata, commonly known as the small ant orchid, is a small species of orchid endemic to Queensland. It has two leaves and a single green flower with a shiny black, insect-like callus occupying most of the labellum.
Description
Chiloglottis truncata is a terrestrial, perennial, deciduous, herb with two leaves {{convert|50-60|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|14-16|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} wide. A single green flower {{convert|14-16|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|4-5|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} wide is borne on a flowering stem {{convert|60-100|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} high. The dorsal sepal is {{convert|10-11|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} long and {{convert|2-2.5|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide. The lateral sepals are {{convert|9-10|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} long, about {{convert|1|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide and curve downwards. There is a glandular tip about {{convert|1|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long on all three sepals. The petals are about {{convert|8|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} long, {{convert|2|mm|in|sigfig=1|abbr=on}} wide and turn downwards towards the ovary. The labellum is trowel-shaped, {{convert|7.5-8|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} long and about {{convert|4|mm|in|sigfig=2|abbr=on}} wide with a square-cut tip and a narrow, shiny black, insect-like callus extending to its tip. Flowering occurs from July to September.{{cite book|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=A complete guide to native orchids of Australia including the island territories|date=2006|publisher=New Holland|location=Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.|isbn=1877069124|pages =142–143}}
