Club career
=Lyn=
Born in Enugu, Nigeria, Obasi started his football career at River Lane Youth Club Enugu and JC Raiders in his homeland country. Obasi went to Norway at the same time as his countryman Mikel John Obi; both players joined Lyn.{{cite news|title=Sprint-rekord av Lyn-spiss|url=http://www.dagsavisen.no/innenriks/sprint-rekord-av-lyn-spiss-1.878877|website=Dagsavisen|language=no|date=19 January 2005|access-date=10 February 2017|first=Reidar|last=Sollie|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170209193632/http://www.dagsavisen.no/innenriks/sprint-rekord-av-lyn-spiss-1.878877|archive-date=9 February 2017|url-status=live}} It was disputed that Obasi signed for Lyn in 2004, but this was rejected by FIFA which ordered both Obasi and Ezekiel Bala returned to Lyn with immediate effect.{{cite news|title=Bala og Edu må tilbake til Lyn|url=http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/lyn/bala-og-edu-maa-tilbake-til-lyn/a/303409/|website=Verdan Gang|language=no|date=8 April 2006|access-date=10 February 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170209203307/http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/lyn/bala-og-edu-maa-tilbake-til-lyn/a/303409/|archive-date=9 February 2017|url-status=live}}
Obasi made his Lyn debut, in the opening game of the season, where he played 66 minutes, in a 1–1 draw against Fredrikstad.{{cite news|title=Mener "Drillo-fotballen" er en myte|url=http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/lyn/mener-drillo-fotballen-er-en-myte/a/273331/|website=Verdens Gang|language=no|date=10 April 2005|access-date=10 February 2017|first=Klaus|last=Eriksen|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170209195921/http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/lyn/mener-drillo-fotballen-er-en-myte/a/273331/|archive-date=9 February 2017|url-status=live}} However, Obasi struggled to regain a place in the first team and it wasn't until on 25 September 2005 when he scored his first Lyn goal, in a 1–0 win over Brann.{{cite news|title=Bergs genistrek|url=http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/sk-brann/bergs-genistrek/a/291259/|website=Verdan Gang|language=no|date=25 September 2005|access-date=10 February 2017|first=Bjarte|last=Valen|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170209201710/http://www.vg.no/sport/fotball/sk-brann/bergs-genistrek/a/291259/|archive-date=9 February 2017|url-status=live}} Despite this, Obasi made five appearances in his first season.
