Chlamydera is a genus of passerine birds in the bowerbird family Ptilonorhynchidae that are found in Australia and New Guinea.

The birds in this genus build "avenue-type" bowers which consist of two parallel walls made of vertical sticks and pieces of grass.{{Cite journal | last1=Ericson | first1=P.G.P. | last2=Irestedt | first2=M. | last3=Nylander | first3=J.A.A. | last4=Christidis | first4=L. | last5=Joseph | first5=L. | last6=Qu | first6=Y. | date=2020 | title=Parallel evolution of bower-building behavior in two groups of bowerbirds suggested by phylogenomics | journal=Systematic Biology | volume=69 | issue=5 | pages=820-829 | doi=10.1093/sysbio/syaa040 | doi-access=free }}

Taxonomy

The genus Chlamydera was introduced in 1837 by the English ornithologist John Gould to accommodate Calodera maculata Gould, the spotted bowerbird, which is therefore the type species by monotypy.{{ cite book | last=Gould | first=John | author-link=John Gould | year=1837 | title=The Birds of Australia and the Adjacent Islands | volume=1 | location=London | publisher=self | at=Plate 3 text, footnote | url=https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-185308543/view?partId=nla.obj-185884713#page/n12/mode/1up }} No plate or page numbers.{{ cite book | editor1-last=Mayr | editor1-first=Ernst | editor1-link=Ernst Mayr | editor2-last=Greenway | editor2-first=James C.
