Chrysomela is a genus of leaf beetles found almost throughout the world, but not in Australia. It contains around 40 species, including 7 in eastern and northern Europe.{{cite journal |author=Andris Bukejs |year=2010 |title=On Latvian Chrysomelinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae): 2. Taxonomy
Chrysomela is traditionally broken up into three subgenera, Chrysomela, Macrolina (or Strickerus) and Pachylina. In 1998, researchers Maurizio Biondi and Mauro Daccordi proposed a new classification of Chryomela without any subgenera.{{cite book|last1=Biondi|first1=M.|last2=Daccordi|first2=M.|year=1998|chapter=A proposed new supra-specific classification of Chrysomela Linné and other related genera and a description of new taxa|chapter-url=https://www.researchgate.net/publication/257939801|pages=49–71|editor1-last=Biondi|editor1-first=M.|editor2-last=Daccordi|editor2-first=M.|editor3-last=Furth|editor3-first=D.G.|title=Proceedings of the Fourth International Symposium on the Chrysomelidae.
