Clan Alpine Mountains took its name from a nearby mining district.{{cite book | url=http://dwgateway.library.unr.edu/keck/histtopoNV/Origin_of_Place_Names_Files/1941NevadaOriginofNames-pt1.pdf | title=Origin of Place Names: Nevada | publisher=W.P.A. | author=Federal Writers' Project | year=1941 | pages=10}} At least eight mines are located in the northwestern part of the range north of Healy Peak in the Bernice and Hoyt canyons on the northwest flank of the range. This mine group was worked from 1866 and known as the Bernice, Salina or Alamo district. The mines produced antimony, silver, gold and tungsten.[http://www.nbmg.unr.edu/dox/r47/r47.pdf Tingley, Joseph V., Mining Districts of Nevada, Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, Report 47, 2nd ed., 1998, pp 31-2] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150221051144/http://www.nbmg.unr.edu/dox/r47/r47.pdf |date=February 21, 2015 }}
