History

A rail link from Clark International Airport to Metro Manila was originally planned in the 1990s.{{cite web|title=Off track: Northrail timeline|url=https://news.abs-cbn.com/nation/07/15/08/track-northrail-timeline|access-date=February 17, 2019|website=ABS-CBN News}} The first proposal, called the "Manila–Clark rapid railway system", was discontinued due to disagreement on funding. In the early 2000s, the NorthRail project was pursued. This involved the conversion the rail gauge from narrow gauge to standard gauge, and linking Manila to Malolos, Bulacan and eventually to Clark and its airport. The project was discontinued in 2011 due to allegations of overpricing, and was replaced by the current North–South Commuter Railway project.{{cite web|last=Landingin|first=Roel|title=Chinese foreign aid goes offtrack in the Philippines|url=http://www.realityofaid.org/userfiles/roareports/roareport_452449c76e.pdf|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120425082137/http://www.realityofaid.org/userfiles/roareports/roareport_452449c76e.pdf|archive-date=April 25, 2012|access-date=October 20, 2011|publisher=PCIJ (Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism)}}{{cite web|title=Philippines: China-funded Northrail project derailed|url=https://www.ft.com/content/7f7f314c-522b-3a68-b6ad-4188ff607f4d|access-date=February 17, 2019|website=Financial Times|language=en-GB}} The station is being constructed as part of the second phase of the NSCR.{{Cite news |last=Romero |first=Maria |date=March 8, 2021 |title=PNR Clark Phase 1 almost 50% complete–DoTr |url=https://tribune.net.ph/index.php/2021/03/08/pnr-clark-phase-1-almost-50-complete-dotr/ |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210308114142/https://tribune.net.ph/index.php/2021/03/08/pnr-clark-phase-1-almost-50-complete-dotr/ |archive-date=March 8, 2021 |access-date=March 9, 2021 |website=Tribune.net.ph}} Partial operations are slated to begin by 2027.{{cite news |last1=Taguines |first1=Andrea |date=June 13, 2024 |title=North-South Commuter Railway partial operations pushed back to 2027: DOTr |url=https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/2024/6/13/partial-operations-of-north-south-commuter-railway-pushed-back-to-2027-dotr-1527 |access-date=12 July 2024 |work=ABS-CBN News}}
