Clinton Jackson (born May 20, 1954) is an American former professional boxer. As an amateur, he competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 1974 World Championships and a gold at the 1975 Pan American Games.
Biography
Born in Evergreen, Alabama, Jackson was an all-around athlete who played football and basketball in high school.{{cite news|url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/581691024|title=Clinton Jackson Lacks Only The Olympic Gold Medal|work=The Prattville Progress|first=Carl|last=Poteat|date=February 15, 1979|access-date=February 9, 2022|page=13|via=Newspapers.com}} He began boxing in 1970 when he walked into a gym in Pensacola, Florida.{{cite news|url=https://www.newspapers.com/image/257461050|title=Jackson Confident of Taking Gold|work=Montgomery Advertiser|first=Roy|last=Thomas|date=July 11, 1976|access-date=February 9, 2022|page=13|via=Newspapers.com}} He lost to Emilio Correa in the gold medal match at the 1974 World Championships, but then defeated him en route to a gold medal at the 1975 Pan American Games.
He turned professional in 1979 but never achieved the results that he had as an amateur. He failed to win a fight against any significant opposition, and lost decisions to James Shuler, Sumbu Kalambay, and Buster Drayton. In 1989, Jackson, a former sheriff's deputy, was convicted of kidnapping an Alabama banker in an extortion scheme, in which he demanded US$9,000. In 1992, an Associated Press article reported that Jackson was serving a life sentence in an Alabama prison inmate #00154880.{{cite news |title=Unknown title: news wire report for conviction |work=Elyria Chronicle-Telegram |date=1989-06-30}} According to Sports Illustrated, he was still serving a life sentence as of January 2015.{{cite magazine |title=U.S. Boxing: A Flurry of Punch Lines |magazine=Sports Illustrated |date=2006-07-03}}Jackson has an upcoming parole hearing set for September 2016.

Clinton Jackson had 221 amateur fights, finishing his amateur career with a record of 206 wins 15 losses.
