Eriksson in 1981.{{cite journal |author=Eriksson |first=Ove |year=1981 |title=The families of bitunicate Ascomycetes |journal=Opera Botanica |volume=60 |pages=1–209 |doi=10.1111/j.1756-1051.1981.tb01167.x |isbn=9788770011198}} Species in the family have a widespread distribution and typically grow epiphytically or biotrophically on leaves and stems.{{cite book |vauthors=Cannon PF, Kirk PM |title=Fungal Families of the World |publisher=CABI|location=Wallingford |year=2007 |page=78 |isbn=978-0-85199-827-5}}
