CodeCon
CodeCon was an annual conference for software hackers and technology enthusiasts, held every year between 2002 and 2009. CodeCon was not intended to be a computer security conference, but a conference with a focus on software developers doing presentations of technologies, as computer programs, rather than products.{{cite web |title= Information Security News - CodeCon 2009 Call for Presentations |url= http://seclists.org/isn/2009/Jan/0024.html | date= Jan 2009}}
History
Bram Cohen and Len Sassaman are credited with devising and organizing the first conference at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, California in 2002. The conference was the result of discussion on building a small, programmer-focused convention. Some projects discussed at the first CodeCon include BitTorrent and Peek-a-Booty.{{cite web |title= Bram Cohen interview |website= The Register |date= 22 April 2009 |url= https://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/04/22/bram_cohen_interview/}}{{cite web |url=https://www.newscientist.com/article/dn1948 |title= Peekabooty aims to banish internet censorship |date=2002-02-19 |first= Will |last= Knight |work=New Scientist}}{{cite web |title= CodeCon to trailblaze emerging tech |website= The Register |date= 2003-01-24 |url= https://www.theregister.co.uk/2003/01/24/codecon_to_trailblaze_emerging_tech/}}{{cite web |title= CodeCon - 2002 |url= http://www.codecon.org/2002/ |url-status= usurped |archiveurl= https://web.archive.org/web/20040216014402/http://www.codecon.org/2002/ |archivedate= 2004-02-16 }} There were also panel discussions, including one about the legality of hacking, which focused on the actions of the MPAA and RIAA against peer-to-peer file sharing networks.{{cite web |title= Story |date= 20 Feb 2002 |work= www.infoanarchy.org |url= http://www.infoanarchy.org/story/2002/2/20/6132/21406 |url-status= dead |archiveurl= https://web.archive.org/web/20040201221234/http://www.infoanarchy.org/story/2002/2/20/6132/21406 |archivedate= 2004-02-01 }}
