History
The school was established as Colorado Technical College in 1965, focusing on training former military personnel in technical and vocational subjects. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Robert (Bob) Turkisher, a flight engineer, founded the institution and served as its first president. To support his efforts, Turkisher brought in Air Force Colonel Richard Davis to be the Human Resources Director at CTU. Davis had experience in the Human Resources field after serving as a pilot, which allowed Turkisher to focus on developing the school’s programs and securing accreditation.{{Cite web |title=CTU’s Mission and History |url=https://www.coloradotech.edu/about/mission-and-history |access-date=2024-10-13 |website=www.coloradotech.edu}} In 1995, the institution gained university status and changed its name to Colorado Technical University (CTU).{{Cite web |url=http://www.ncahlc.org/component/option,com_directory/Action,ShowBasic/Itemid,184/instid,1922/lang,en/ |title=Directory of HLC Institutions |publisher=North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning |date=June 20, 2010 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100620112400/http://www.ncahlc.org/component/option%2Ccom_directory/Action%2CShowBasic/Itemid%2C184/instid%2C1922/lang%2Cen/ |archive-date=20 June 2010 |url-status=dead |access-date=3 December 2018}}
CTU's mascot, the Golden Eagle, is inspired by a Native American legend about a brave becoming a man. The story tells how the chief took the brave to a mountain peak, where he transformed into a golden eagle, soared above the land, gained knowledge and wisdom, and returned to guide his people.{{Cite web |title=Colorado Technical University |url=https://app.courseworxs.com/ctu/ |access-date=2024-10-13 |website=app.courseworxs.com}}

The scholarship covers the full cost of tuition toward any CTU degree, including course materials, fees, and a new laptop computer.{{cite web |title=CTU Honors 50 Wounded Warriors, Veterans and Spouses with Full Scholarships |url=https://www.coloradotech.edu/blog/2014/november/wounded-warrior-press-release |website=www.coloradotech.edu |date=November 11, 2014}} As of 2023, CTU has awarded 800 scholarships totaling over $20 million.{{Cite web |title=CTU Patriot Scholarship |url=https://www.coloradotech.edu/military/ctupatriot |date=December 31, 2023 |access-date=2024-10-11 |website=www.coloradotech.edu}}
