Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST) is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Taylor & Francis on behalf of IOM3 covering corrosion engineering, corrosion science, and corrosion control.{{Cite web |title=Aims and scope |url=https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=aimsScope&journalCode=ycst20 |website=Taylor & Francis}}{{Cite web |title=Institute information |url=https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=societyInformation&journalCode=ycst20 |website=Taylor & Francis}}

History

The journal was founded in 1965 as the British Corrosion Journal (BCJ). It was launched as a publication of the British Joint Corrosion Group, which represented the interests of a number of professional organisations, including the Institute of Metals (later known the Metals Society and the Institute of Materials){{Efn|Other groups included the Iron and Steel Institute, the Society of Chemical Industry, and the Institute of Metal Finishing.|group=}}, to promote corrosion as an independent area of expertise. In this way, BCJ contrasted with existing journals in this field, namely Corrosion Science, which represented a more academic background.{{Cite journal |last=McIntyre |first=Paul |date=2003 |title=Editorial |journal=Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology |volume=38 |issue=1 |pages=1–4 |doi=10.1179/147842203321638402|doi-access=free }}{{Cite journal |last=Lyon |first=Stuart |date=2012 |title=Launch of British Corrosion Journal online archive broadens access to classic papers |journal=Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology |volume=47 |issue=4 |pages=241–244 |doi=10.1179/1478422X12Z.00000000065|s2cid=218677837 |doi-access=free }}

In 1979, the Metals Society established the annual Guy Bengough Medal and Prize, which would be awarded to the best paper published in BCJ from the previous two years.{{Cite journal |date=1979 |title=Guy Dunstan Bengough |url=https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1179/000705979798276004 |journal=British Corrosion Journal |volume=14 |issue=1 |pages=2–3 |doi=10.1179/000705979798276004|url-access=subscription }}

In 2001, the Institute of Materials (IoM) outsourced publication of 13 journals including BCJ to Maney Publishing.{{Cite news |last=Murphy |first=John |date=2007 |title=From printer to publisher |work=Research Information |url=https://www.researchinformation.info/feature/printer-publisher}} The next year, IoM merged into the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (IOM3).{{Cite web |title=History |url=https://www.iom3.org/about-us/history.html |website=IOM3}}{{Cite web |title=IOM3 CELEBRATES 150 YEARS |url=https://www.knowledgequarter.london/iom3-strikes-old/ |website=KQ}}

BCJ had initially sourced the majority of its papers from the United Kingdom and the rest of the Commonwealth although increasingly drew from more international sources over time. In 2003, the journal was renamed to Corrosion Engineering, Science and Technology to reflect the international nature of the journal.

In 2015, Maney was acquired by Taylor & Francis Group, which continues to publish CEST.{{Cite news |title=Maney Publishing joins Taylor & Francis Group |work=STM Publishing News |url=https://www.stm-publishing.com/maney-publishing-joins-taylor-francis-group/}}

The journal is currently edited by Stuart B. Lyon.{{Cite web |title=Editorial board |url=https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=editorialBoard&journalCode=ycst20 |website=Taylor & Francis}}
