Corythodinium elegans is a species of dinoflagellates in the family Oxytoxaceae. It is found Worldwide. The type locality is the Mediterranean.Gómez, F. (2005). A list of free-living dinoflagellate species in the world’s oceans. Acta Bot. Croat. 64(1): 129-212. It is also found in AustralianMcCarthy, 2013 and New Zealand waters.Chang et al., 2012
