Ecology
The inflorescence of C. woodsonii has bracts that produce extrafloral nectar. This nectar attracts ants that interfere with oviposition by herbivores of the plant.{{Cite journal |last=Schemske |first=Douglas W. |date=1980 |title=The Evolutionary Significance of Extrafloral Nectar Production by Costus woodsonii (Zingiberaceae): An Experimental Analysis of Ant Protection |url=https://www.jstor.org/stable/2259468 |journal=Journal of Ecology |volume=68 |issue=3 |pages=959–967 |doi=10.2307/2259468 |issn=0022-0477}} White-faced capuchins (Cebus capucinus) eat Costus woodsonii.{{cite book |last1=Campbell |first1=Jennifer Christine |title=White-faced Capuchins (Cebus capucinus) of Cahuita National Park, Costa Rica: Human Foods and Human Interactions |date=2013 |url=https://dr.lib.iastate.edu/handle/20.500.12876/27807/ |access-date=3 August 2024}}
