Cresolene

Cresolene is a dark liquid with a pungent smell made from coal tar used in the 19th and early 20th century as a disinfectant{{Cite web |url=http://www.storytrax.com/node/454 |title=Sunlight and Firelight {{!}} StoryTrax |access-date=2007-06-22 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20070929194448/http://www.storytrax.com/node/454 |archive-date=2007-09-29 |url-status=dead }} and to treat various ailments such as colds and measles.
