About
The Crop Science Society of America was founded in 1956 as a daughter society of the American Society of Agronomy with its inaugural president being Gerald Mott{{Cite web|url=https://www.crops.org/membership/committees/view/C001.1/members/history|title = View Committee | Crop Science Society of America}} and in 1961 launched Crop Science, the society's flagship peer-reviewed journal.{{cite journal|doi=10.2135/cropsci1961.0011183X000100010001x|title=Editorial — the New Crop Science Journal|year=1961|last1=Johnson|first1=I. The Crop Science Society of America awards a number of recognitions classified as "prestigious" by the National Research Council (United States). These include the Frank N. Meyer Medal for Plant Genetic Resources, the Fred V. Grau Turfgrass Science Award, the Young Crop Scientist Award, and CSSA Fellow.{{Cite web|url=http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/Resdoc/PGA_044718|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190722063834/http://sites.nationalacademies.org/PGA/Resdoc/PGA_044718|archive-date=2019-07-22|title=Policy and Global Affairs at the National Academies}} No more than 0.3% of the total membership are voted the title of Fellow.{{Cite web|url=https://www.crops.org/awards/view/89|title=View Awards | Crop Science Society of America}}
