The genus Crosbycus is named after the arachnologist Cyrus Richard Crosby (1879–1937). Gender masculine.

Taxonomy

The genus Crosbycus securely contains one species C. dasycnemus, although historically several other species have been proposed to belong to the genus. These include C. goodnighti Roewer, 1951, C. pentelicus Roewer, 1951 and C. speluncarum Roewer, 1951.{{Cite journal|last1=Schönhofer|first1=A.L.|date=2013|title=A taxonomic catalogue of the Dyspnoi Hansen and Sørensen, 1904 (Arachnida: Opiliones)|journal=Zootaxa|volume=3679|issue=1|pages=1–68|doi=10.11646/zootaxa.3679.1.1 |issn=1175-5326|url=https://www.biotaxa.org/Zootaxa/article/view/zootaxa.3679.1.1|language=en|doi-access=free}} C. goodnighti Roewer, 1951 was indicated as species inquirenda by Cokendolpher & Lee 1993, and arguably "should be deleted from North American faunal lists" (per Shear, 2008).{{Cite journal|last=Shear|first=W.A.|date=2008|title=Deletions from the North American harvestman (Opiliones) faunal list: Phalangomma virginicum Roewer, 1949 is a synonym of Erebomaster weyerensis (Packard, 1888) (Travunioidea: Cladonychiidae), and a note on “Crosbycus” goodnightorum Roewer, 1951 (Nemastomatidae). |journal=Zootaxa|volume=1945|pages=467–68|doi=10.11646/zootaxa.1945.1.4|issn=1175-5334|language=en|doi-access=free|url=https://mapress.com/zt/article/download/zootaxa.1945.1.4/27126}} For other species from Eurasia, the affinies are even less certain, notably C. pentelicus was considered a junior subjective synonym of Nemastoma thessalum Simon, 1885 by Rambla (1968). Another, C. speluncarum Roewer, 1951, might be best considered nomen dubium (after Schönhofer 2013).
