Bacon joined Orient in June 1946 and made his league debut against Southend United in the following September.{{cite book |last1=Kaufman |first1=Neilson N |last2=Ravenhill |first2=Alan E |title=The Men Who Made Leyton Orient Football Club |date=2002 |publisher=Tempus Publishing |isbn=0752424122 |pages=23–24}} He made 121 league and cup appearances for Orient, scoring three goals, in four seasons before being released in May 1950 when he signed for Brentford

After a season with Brentford (where he didn't make a first team league appearance) he moved into non-league football: firstly for one season with Southern League club Dartford;{{cite journal |date=24 August 1951 |title=Unpleasant Incident |journal=Kentish Express |pages=2}} then onto two Kent League clubs, Tunbridge Wells Utd{{cite journal |date=25 September 1952 |title=Hope Will Lead Wells Against Ashford |journal=Kentish Express |pages=3}} again for two seasons, then Ashford Town{{cite journal |date=20 August 1954 |title=New Look Ashford Forwards Face Old City Rearguard: More Signing for Railmen |journal=Kentish Express |pages=4}} for just over one season.
