DAOY (biology)

DAOY is a widely used human medulloblastoma cell line. It has epithelial morphology and was obtained from a 4-year-old Caucasian boy in 1985.{{cite journal | vauthors = Jacobsen PF, Jenkyn DJ, Papadimitriou JM | title = Establishment of a human medulloblastoma cell line and its heterotransplantation into nude mice | journal = J Neuropathol Exp Neurol | volume = 44 | issue = 5 | pages = 472–485 | date = Sep 1985 | pmid = 2993532 | doi = 10.1097/00005072-198509000-00003 | s2cid = 8681884 }} It can be obtained from the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) where it is known by the catalog number HTB-186.{{cite web | title = HTB-186 | url = https://www.atcc.org/Products/Cells_and_Microorganisms/Cell_Lines/Human/Alphanumeric/HTB-186.aspx | publisher = ATCC}} Its proteome and phenotype have been investigated in many publications.{{cite journal | vauthors = Martelli C, et al. | title = Top-down proteomic characterization of DAOY medulloblastoma tumor cell line | journal = EuPA Open Proteomics | volume = 12 | pages = 13–21 | date = Sep 2016 | doi = 10.1016/j.euprot.2016.03.015 | pmid = 29900115 | pmc = 5988510 }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Peyrl A, et al. | title = Protein profiles of medulloblastoma cell lines DAOY and D283: identification of tumor-related proteins and principles | journal = Proteomics | volume = 3 | issue = 9 | pages = 1781–1800 | date = Sep 2003 | doi = 10.1002/pmic.200300460 | pmid = 12973738 | s2cid = 25515447 }}{{cite journal | vauthors = Srivastava VK, Nalbantoglu J | title = Flow cytometric characterization of the DAOY medulloblastoma cell line for the cancer stem-like phenotype | journal = Cytometry A | volume = 73 | issue = 10 | pages = 940–948 | date = Oct 2008 | doi = 10.1002/cyto.a.20633 | pmid = 18773455 | doi-access = free }}

DAOY is most commonly grown in Eagle's minimal essential medium with 10% FBS and antibiotics. It is incubated at 37 degrees Celsius in a 5% carbon dioxide atmosphere.
