DISC2
{{Short description|Non-coding RNA in the species Homo sapiens}}
{{Infobox_gene}}
In molecular biology, disrupted in schizophrenia 2 (non-protein coding), also known as DISC2, is a long non-coding RNA molecule. In humans, the DISC2 gene that produces the DISC2 RNA molecule is located on chromosome 1, at the breakpoint associated with the chromosomal translocation found in Schizophrenia.{{cite journal | vauthors = Millar JK, Wilson-Annan JC, Anderson S, Christie S, Taylor MS, Semple CA, Devon RS, St Clair DM, Muir WJ, Blackwood DH, Porteous DJ | title = Disruption of two novel genes by a translocation co-segregating with schizophrenia | journal = Human Molecular Genetics | volume = 9 | issue = 9 | pages = 1415–1423 | date = May 2000 | pmid = 10814723 | doi = 10.1093/hmg/9.9.1415 | doi-access = free | hdl = 20.500.11820/debc2b54-6e20-425f-9eab-dcd0c136cc98 | hdl-access = free }} It is antisense to the DISC1 gene and may regulate the expression of DISC1.{{cite journal | vauthors = Millar JK, James R, Brandon NJ, Thomson PA | title = DISC1 and DISC2: discovering and dissecting molecular mechanisms underlying psychiatric illness | journal = Annals of Medicine | volume = 36 | issue = 5 | pages = 367–378 | year = 2004 | pmid = 15478311 | doi = 10.1080/07853890410033603 | s2cid = 36081296 }} DISC2 may also contribute to other psychiatric disorders.{{cite journal | vauthors = Hodgkinson CA, Goldman D, Jaeger J, Persaud S, Kane JM, Lipsky RH, Malhotra AK | title = Disrupted in schizophrenia 1 (DISC1): association with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder | journal = American Journal of Human Genetics | volume = 75 | issue = 5 | pages = 862–872 | date = Nov 2004 | pmid = 15386212 | pmc = 1182115 | doi = 10.1086/425586 }}
