DMCA's Sky (originally released as No Mario's Sky) is a 2016 open world platform game developed by ASMB Games for Microsoft Windows, OS X, and Linux. As No Mario's Sky, it was a fangame of both Super Mario Bros. and No Man's Sky.{{cite news |last1=Robertson |first1=Adi |date=30 August 2016 |title=No Mario's Sky is the inevitable child of Super Mario Bros. and No Man's Sky |work=The Verge |url=https://www.theverge.com/2016/8/30/12709270/no-mans-sky-super-mario-bros-procedurally-generated-mashup |accessdate=6 September 2016}}{{cite news |last1=Kamen |first1=Matt |date=30 August 2016 |title=Mario meets No Man's Sky in this fiendishly fun fan-made game |url=https://www.wired.co.uk/article/play-no-marios-sky-game |accessdate=6 September 2016}}{{cite news |last1=Kain |first1=Erik |date=31 August 2016 |title='No Mario's Sky' Is Exactly As Great As It Sounds |url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2016/08/31/no-marios-sky-is-exactly-as-great-as-it-sounds/ |accessdate=6 September 2016}}

Gameplay

DMCA's Sky combines gameplay elements of side-scrolling platform games like Super Mario Bros. and open world space exploration games like No Man's Sky. The player controls an astronaut named Finn who uses a futuristic spacecraft to travel between procedurally generated planets.{{Cite web |title=DMCA's Sky by ASMB Games |url=https://asmb.itch.io/dmcas-sky |access-date=2023-03-03 |website=itch.io |language=en}} Gameplay primarily takes place on these planets, where Finn can run, jump, and find collectibles in a similar fashion to the Super Mario series.

Development

In August 2016, soon after the release of No Man's Sky, No Mario's Sky was created by ASMB Games, a team based in Australia, for Ludum Dare 36 in 72 hours. The team consisted of Alex McDonald (art and sound director), Sam Izzo, Max Cahill, and Ben Porter.{{cite news|last1=McMinn|first1=Kevin|title=No Mario's Sky Team Responds to Takedown Notice With DMCA's Sky|url=http://nintendonews.com/news/general/no-marios-sky-takedown-notice-dmcas-sky/|accessdate=13 June 2017|work=Nintendo News|date=5 September 2016}}{{cite news|last1=Prabhu|first1=Vijay|title=In protest against Nintendo's legal threats, developers rename the game "No Mario's Sky" to 'DMCA's Sky'|url=https://www.techworm.net/2016/09/protest-nintendos-legal-threats-developers-rename-game-no-marios-sky-dmcas-sky.html|accessdate=13 June 2017|work=TechWorm|date=6 September 2016}}
