The kids prevail upon friendly gas-station owner Mr. Henry to act as Mickey's surrogate dad during the festivities. Not only does Mr. Henry win every competition, but he also works up enough nerve to propose to Mickey's widowed mother.{{Cite web|url=https://movies.nytimes.com/movie/142570/Dad-For-A-Day/overview |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110520201152/http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/142570/Dad-For-A-Day/overview |url-status=dead |archive-date=2011-05-20 |department=Movies & TV Dept. |work=The New York Times |author=Hal Erickson |title=New York Times: Dad-For-A-Day|author-link=Hal Erickson (author) |date=2011 |accessdate=2008-10-08}}
