The site was formerly the park of Danesbury House, and it still has some large mature trees which are important to wildlife, especially bats, owls, insects and fungi. The park also has grassland with many varieties of flowering plants, and which is managed by rare-breed cattle, and occasionally by cutting.{{cite web|url=http://www.welhat.gov.uk/article/1380/Danesbury|title=Danesbury|publisher=Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council|accessdate=22 March 2015|archive-date=7 January 2015|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150107054651/http://www.welhat.gov.uk/article/1380/Danesbury|url-status=dead}}
