Daniel Speer
Writing
As a writer he wrote a musical treatise, political tracts, and fiction. In 1687 he published a treatise on music that is considered useful in understanding Middle Baroque music.Speer, Daniel (1687): [https://archive.org/details/grundrichtigerk00speegoog Grund-richtiger/kurtz/leicht und noethiger Unterricht der Musicalischen Kunst] (in German, blackletter font). Ulm: G. W. Kühnen. 2nd, much enlarged edition: [https://books.google.com/books?id=mwhDAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA153 Grund-richtiger... Unterricht... oder Vierfaches musicalisches Kleeblatt]. Ulm: G. W. Kühnen (1697). His writing on music would influence German Baroque trombone works for over a century. In non-musical writing his political tracts led to his being imprisoned for a year and a half.{{cite book |ref= |last=Guion |first=David M.

In them the narrator is referred to as Daniel Simplex.
