Dardanelles is an unincorporated community in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It lies opposite the city of Gold Hill on the south side of the Rogue River.{{cite map|title=Dardanelles|url=http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=42.428889,-123.058056&z=12&t=T&marker0=42.428889,-123.058056,Dardanelles%2C%20Oregon|work=ACME Mapper 2.1|publisher=ACME Labs|access-date=January 12, 2017}} Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 99 pass by Gold Hill and Dardanelles.{{cite book |title= Oregon Atlas & Gazetteer |edition= 7th |year= 2008 |publisher= DeLorme |location= Yarmouth, Maine |isbn= 0-89933-347-8 |pages=60–61, 68}}
William G. T'Vault, who founded the community in the 1850s, chose the name apparently because the river here runs through a narrow stretch between hills and may have reminded him of the Dardanelles between Asia and Europe.{{cite book |title=Oregon Geographic Names |last=McArthur |first=Lewis A. |author-link=Lewis A. Although a place of importance in early Oregon, little of the community remains. Author Ralph Friedman says in In Search of Western Oregon, "Today most people in Gold Hill know of Dardanelles only because a [local] service station bears that name."{{cite book|last=Friedman|first=Ralph|title=In Search of Western Oregon|publisher=Caxton Printers|location=Caldwell, Idaho|year=1990|page=[https://archive.org/details/insearchofwester00frie/page/570 570]|isbn=0-87004-332-3|url-access=registration|url=https://archive.org/details/insearchofwester00frie/page/570}}
