Dark Night is a 2016 American drama film directed by Tim Sutton. It is loosely based on the 2012 Aurora, Colorado shooting. For example, there are some differences in the film versus the event: the film is set in Florida, whereas the shooting occurred in Colorado; the identities of the Aurora shooter and the victims are altered in the film.{{cite web |url=http://www.indiewire.com/2016/01/sundance-review-tim-suttons-haunting-dark-night-is-a-chilling-prelude-to-violence-86181/ |title=Sundance Review: Tim Sutton's Haunting 'Dark Night' Is A Chilling Prelude To Violence|work=IndieWire|date=January 25, 2016|accessdate=September 19, 2016}}{{cite web|url=http://enterfuntech.com/dark-night-2017-trailer-review-six-strangers-intersect|title=Dark Night 2017 Trailer and Review Six Strangers Intersect - Movies Reviews|publisher=|accessdate=January 24, 2017}} It was screened in the Horizons section at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival.{{cite web|url=http://www.labiennale.org/en/cinema/73rd-festival/line-up/off-sel/orizzonti/|title=La Biennale di Venezia - Orizzonti|accessdate=August 21, 2016|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161004224528/http://www.labiennale.org/en/cinema/73rd-festival/line-up/off-sel/orizzonti/|archive-date=October 4, 2016|url-status=dead}} The film was shot in Sarasota, Florida.
