Date

YYYY-MM-DD is official date format for the Bikram Sambat calendar used in Nepal. While speaking and writing full BS dates, the mmmm d, yyyy format is often used alongside the yyyy mmmm d format. For instance, the 23rd of Chaitra, 2077 BS can be spoken and written as Chaitra 23, 2077 ({{Lang|ne|चैत २३, २०७७}}) or 2077 Chaitra 23 ({{Lang|ne|२०७७ चैत २३}}). An example of Vikram Samvat YYYY-MM-DD usage used is the online news portal Onlinekhabar.{{cite web|title=सरकारसँग मिलेर जलविद्युतमा लगानी गर्ने हो ? यसरी भर्नुहोस् अनलाइन फारम|url=http://www.onlinekhabar.com/2017/01/526213/|publisher=Onlinekhabar|accessdate=9 January 2017|ref=1}} When using the Gregorian calendar, both YYYY-MM-DD ({{Time|NPT|iso|dateonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|hide-refresh=yes}}) and DD/MM/YYYY ({{Time|NPT|dmy12|dateonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|hide-refresh=yes|df-cust=d/m/Y}}) format can be used. While the DMY format ({{Time|NPT|dmy12|dateonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|hide-refresh=yes}}) is used when writing full Gregorian dates, the MDY format ({{Time|NPT|mdy12|dateonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|hide-refresh=yes}}) is also acceptable. All government documents need to be filled up in the YYYY-MM-DD format.{{cite web|title=Passport Application Form|url=http://webcpanel3.nitc.gov.np/~nepalpassport/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/form2-4mv2-1.pdf|publisher=Department Of Passports|accessdate=9 January 2017|ref=1|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20161119080512/http://webcpanel3.nitc.gov.np/~nepalpassport/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/form2-4mv2-1.pdf|archive-date=19 November 2016|url-status=dead}} A week starts on a Sunday ({{Lang|ne|आइतबार}}) and ends on a Saturday ({{Lang|ne|शनिबार}}).{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Days of the week|url=https://nepalgo.de/post/51535662599/vocabulary-days-of-the-week|archive-url=|archive-date=|access-date=25 December 2020|website=Nepalgo}}

Time

{{Unreferenced section|date=December 2020}}

The 12-hour notation ({{Time|NPT|dmy12|timeonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|hide-refresh=yes}}) is widely used in daily life, written communication, and is used in spoken language. The 24-hour notation ({{Time|NPT|iso|timeonly=yes|hide-tz=yes|hide-refresh=yes}}) is used only in rare situations where there would be widespread ambiguity. Examples include plane departure and landing timings. A colon is widely used to separate hours, minutes and seconds (e.g., 14:39:16).
