He was known for his tenacity.{{cite news|url=http://deportes.elpais.com/deportes/2012/12/14/actualidad/1355516344_828343.html|title=El singular derbi de Joaquín|trans-title=Joaquín's particular derby|newspaper=El País|first=Rafael|last=Pineda|language=es|date=14 December 2012|access-date=25 June 2013}}
He appeared in 255 La Liga games over ten seasons, mostly for Sevilla which he helped to win four major titles, including two UEFA Cups.
Club career
A product of RCD Mallorca's youth academy, Castedo was born in Palma de Mallorca, and first played with the first team in the Segunda División. In the 1996–97 season, he appeared in 33 league matches as the club returned to La Liga.{{cite news|url=https://www.ultimahora.es/deportes/otros-deportes/2006/05/12/546037/del-ostracismo-gloria.html|title=Del ostracismo a la gloria|trans-title=From ostracism to glory|newspaper=Última Hora|first=Carlos|last=Montes de Oca|language=es|date=12 May 2006|access-date=30 October 2024}}
Following two loan spells, first with Hércules CF then with CF Extremadura (the latter in the top division), David returned to the Balearic Islands, playing only eight games in his second spell but also scoring his first goal as a professional. Subsequently, he signed for Sevilla FC, where he experienced the most successful and steady years of his career: after contributing 39 appearances to help the Andalusians to a 2001 top-flight promotion, he went on to become one of the team's most important players, also being named, after Javi Navarro and José Luis Martí, captain.{{cite news|url=https://elpais.com/diario/2006/07/27/deportes/1153951209_850215.html|title=Los capitanes del Sevilla se ponen un esparadrapo en la boca|trans-title=Sevilla captains cover their mouths|newspaper=El País|language=es|date=27 July 2006|access-date=30 October 2024}}{{cite web|url=http://www.sevillismoenvena.com/2015/09/david-castedo-el-pequeno-gigante.html|title=David Castedo, el pequeño Gigante|trans-title=David Castedo, the little Giant|publisher=Sevillismo en Vena|language=es|date=21 September 2015|access-date=30 October 2024}}
