David Dollenmayer

David B. Dollenmayer (born 1945) is an American academic professor of German{{cite web|url=https://www.goethe.de/ins/us/en/m/kul/mag/20724713.html|title=Interview with David Dollenmayer|website=goethe.de|publisher=Goethe Institut|access-date=April 11, 2024}} and literary translator known for his translations of contemporary German classics into English. He taught German in Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he serves as an emeritus professor.
Early life
Dollenmayer received his BA and PhD from Princeton University. After graduation, he became a Fulbright fellow at the University of Munich, Germany. Dollenmayer wrote The Berlin Novels Of Alfred Döblin in Berkeley, California and was published by the University of California Press in 1988.{{cite journal| last=Bedwell|first=Carol|title=Review: The Berlin Novels of Alfred Döblin|journal=Modern Fiction Studies|volume=35|issue= 4|date=1989|pages=829–833|publisher=Johns Hopkins University Press}} He also co-authored Custom Neue Horizonte: Introductory German along Thomas Hansen in 2013. He has translated works from German to English too.

Legacy
Dollenmayer won the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prize in 2008, for his translation of Moses Rosenkranz's Childhood.
