Unlike fellow Québécois NFL rookie Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Foucault was not drafted into the NFL, but he was invited to the Carolina Panthers, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Miami Dolphins rookie camps. He attended the Panthers' camp because the team had fewer offensive linemen competing for positions than the Colts and the Dolphins.{{cite web |last = Kryk |first = John |title=Quebec's David Foucault chose tryout with Panthers over Dolphins and Colts — and is working at left tackle |website= Canoe.ca |date= May 21, 2014 |url= http://blogs.canoe.ca/krykslants/nfl/quebecs-david-foucault-chose-tryout-with-panthers-over-dolphins-and-colts-and-is-working-at-left-tackle/ |accessdate= September 4, 2014 |url-status= usurped |archiveurl= https://archive.today/20140904153451/http://blogs.canoe.ca/krykslants/nfl/quebecs-david-foucault-chose-tryout-with-panthers-over-dolphins-and-colts-and-is-working-at-left-tackle/ |archivedate = September 4, 2014}} The Panthers signed him following the tryout.{{cite news | last =Zurkowsky | first =Herb | title =Top Alouettes draft pick David Foucault signs with NFL's Panthers | newspaper =Montreal Gazette | date =May 19, 2014 | url =https://montrealgazette.com/sports/Alouettes+draft+pick+David+Foucault+signs+with+Panthers/9855862/story.html | accessdate =September 4, 2014 | archive-date =December 1, 2014 | archive-url =https://web.archive.org/web/20141201235952/http://www.montrealgazette.com/sports/Alouettes+draft+pick+David+Foucault+signs+with+Panthers/9855862/story.html | url-status =dead }} On August 31, the team announced that Foucault had made the final 53-man roster.{{cite web | last =Strickland | first =Bryan | title =Norwell, Foucault stay in line | publisher =Carolina Panthers | date =September 1, 2014 | url =http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Norwell-Foucault-stay-in-line/a90ed701-67bd-4f58-bf3d-8557d7b1b78a | accessdate=September 4, 2014}}
