Notable works from the studio include JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Cells at Work!, the 2018 adaptation of Captain Tsubasa, Fire Force, and the 2022 adaptation of Urusei Yatsura.

Establishment

The company was founded by former Gonzo president and producer Kōji Kajita and fellow producer Taito Okiura in September 2007 upon having left Gonzo. The company's first work was as an animation subcontractor, but in 2009 David Production undertook their first full animation production as a primary contractor with Ristorante Paradiso.{{cite web |url=http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-03-25/ristorante-paradiso-slice-of-life-anime-promos-posted |title=Ristorante Paradiso Slice-of-Life Anime's Promos Posted |publisher=Anime News Network |date=March 25, 2009 |access-date=May 15, 2009|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170614230801/http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-03-25/ristorante-paradiso-slice-of-life-anime-promos-posted|archive-date=June 14, 2017|url-status=live}}{{cite web |url=http://mainichi.jp/enta/mantan/anime/archive/news/2009/02/20090220mog00m200069000c.html|script-title=ja:リストランテ・パラディーゾ:老眼鏡紳士ズラリ「枯れ専」注目作 フジ「NOISE」でアニメ化 |publisher=Mainichi Shimbun |date=February 20, 2009 |access-date=May 15, 2009 |language=ja |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090527081554/http://mainichi.jp/enta/mantan/anime/archive/news/2009/02/20090220mog00m200069000c.html |archive-date=May 27, 2009}}{{cite web |url=http://mainichi.jp/enta/mantan/archive/news/2009/03/30/20090330mog00m200028000c.html|script-title=ja:優木まおみ:「紳士萌え~!」"枯れ専"ぶり語る アニメ「リストランテ・パラディーゾ」試写 |publisher=Mainichi Shimbun |date=March 30, 2009 |access-date=May 15, 2009 |language=ja |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090619103139/http://mainichi.jp/enta/mantan/archive/news/2009/03/30/20090330mog00m200028000c.html |archive-date=June 19, 2009}}

The company's name is a reference to the Biblical story of David and Goliath, a story chosen to represent "[the creation of] good animation with great storytelling and characters" despite being smaller than other well-known studios. It is also short for "Design Audio & Visual Illusion Dynamics", which signifies the studio's impactful animations.{{Cite web |url=http://davidproduction.jp/english/company-info/ |title=David Production Official Website - Company Info |publisher=David Production |access-date=June 21, 2018|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20180622005400/http://davidproduction.jp/english/company-info/|archive-date= June 22, 2018|url-status= live}}
