De La Vergne

The De La Vergne was an American automobile manufactured between 1895 and 1896 by John Chester De La Vergne.{{cite book|last=Georgano|first=Nick|title=The Beaulieu Encyclopedia of the Automobile|year=2000|publisher=Stationery Office|location=London|isbn=0117023191|pages=1792}} De La Vergne was a brewer who was manufacturing refrigerators, when he commissioned several vehicles to be built by the Hincks & Johnson Company of Bridgeport, Connecticut and the Valentine, Linn & Son Company of Brooklyn.{{cite book|last=Kimes|first=Beverly Rae|title=The Standard Catalog of American Cars: 1805-1942|year=1996|publisher=Krause Publications|location=Iola, IA|isbn=0873414284|pages=1612}} At least four were made, with the cars being sold to rich and prominent citizens in New York. De La Vergne's death in May 1896 put an end to the venture.
