A total lunar eclipse occurred on December 8, 1573.
It was predicted and then observed by a young Tycho Brahe (assisted by his sister Sophia) at Knutstorp Castle. He said "I cannot but be very surprised that even at this youthful age of 26 years, I was able to get such accurate results."{{Cite web |url=http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEhistory/LEhistory.html |title=Lunar eclipses in History |access-date=2009-12-28 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140515072543/http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEhistory/LEhistory.html |archive-date=2014-05-15 |url-status=dead }}
