History

The station is located below the Wabash Railroad's Delmar Boulevard station, which closed in 1970.

On July 26, 2022, the Delmar Loop station was impacted by a flash flood that shut down MetroLink for nearly 72 hours and caused roughly $40 million in overall damage.{{Cite web |last=Lindsey |date=August 16, 2022 |title=MetroLink Flood Damage Update |url=https://www.metrostlouis.org/nextstop/metrolink-flood-damage-update/ |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220912184611/https://www.metrostlouis.org/nextstop/metrolink-flood-damage-update/ |archive-date=September 12, 2022 |access-date=September 12, 2022 |website=metrostlouis.org |language=en}}{{Cite web |last=Schrappen |first=Colleen |date=August 21, 2022 |title=MetroLink to resume full service, but cost for flood repairs could double |url=https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/metrolink-to-resume-full-service-but-cost-for-flood-repairs-could-double/article_70bf3e11-22c2-5a90-b4b3-8bce5bb133e5.html |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220912184611/https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/metro/metrolink-to-resume-full-service-but-cost-for-flood-repairs-could-double/article_70bf3e11-22c2-5a90-b4b3-8bce5bb133e5.html |archive-date=September 12, 2022 |access-date=September 12, 2022 |website=STLtoday.com |language=en}} Damage near the Delmar Loop station included roughly {{convert|5|mi|km|1|adj=off}} of track bed, a communications room and a two-car train.{{Cite web |last=Jerry |date=2023-08-09 |title=Flood Update: Metro Transit Receives $27.7 Million in Disaster Relief Funding |url=https://www.metrostlouis.org/nextstop/flood-update-metro-transit-receives-27-7-million-in-disaster-relief-funding/ |access-date=2023-09-05 |website=Metro Transit – Saint Louis |language=en}} By September, normal Red Line service had resumed while restricted service continued on the Blue Line.{{Cite web |last=Jerry |date=2022-09-01 |title=MetroLink Changes Starting September 5: Blue Line Service to Operate Between Shrewsbury and Forest Park |url=https://www.metrostlouis.org/nextstop/metrolink-changes-starting-september-5-blue-line-service-operating-between-shrewsbury-and-forest-park/ |access-date=2024-03-18 |website=Metro Transit – Saint Louis |language=en}} On July 31, 2023, Metro received $27.7 million in federal emergency disaster relief funding to help cover the cost of flood damage.{{Cite web |last=Schlinkmann |first=Mark |date=2023-08-01 |title=Metro gets nearly $28 million in federal aid to cover repairs after 2022 flood |url=https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/government-politics/metro-gets-nearly-28-million-in-federal-aid-to-cover-repairs-after-2022-flood/article_beef2952-2fde-11ee-baa6-2f17be35d7f1.html |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230905225938/https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/government-politics/metro-gets-nearly-28-million-in-federal-aid-to-cover-repairs-after-2022-flood/article_beef2952-2fde-11ee-baa6-2f17be35d7f1.html |archive-date=September 5, 2023 |access-date=2023-09-05 |website=STLtoday.com |language=en}}

Public artwork

In 1997, Metro's Arts in Transit program commissioned the work TileLink by Catharine Magel for installation along the pedestrian path between the park and ride lot and the station. TileLink demonstrates how the impact of public art can be a rallying point for the revitalization of neighborhoods and communities. TileLink was the first permanent artwork installation commissioned by Arts in Transit.{{Cite web |title=TileLink |url=https://www.artsintransit.org/portfolio/titelink/ |access-date=October 3, 2022 |website=Arts in Transit, Inc |language=en-US}}

In 2003, the Arts in Transit program commissioned another work nearby the station along the Pageant walkway. Titled Vertical Loop and created by Ron Fondaw, the piece is an installation of seven sculptures composed of three-dimensional, fiberglass objects designed to reflect the Delmar Loop.{{Cite web |title=Vertical Loop |url=https://www.artsintransit.org/portfolio/vertical-loop-2003-ron-fondaw/ |access-date=October 3, 2022 |website=Arts in Transit, Inc |language=en-US}}

In 2009, Arts in Transit commissioned another work for the station. Titled Hive and created by Janet Lofquist, the honeycomb structure, made of weathering steel, is a symbol for the collective spirit of the community.{{Cite web |title=Hive |url=https://www.artsintransit.org/portfolio/hive/ |access-date=October 3, 2022 |website=Arts in Transit, Inc |language=en-US}} Starting as a beehive shape, the hexagonal geometry transitions into a spiral of growth and ends in an abstracted question mark. The weathered steel suggests an industrial past and contrasts with the white cell interiors.{{Cite web |title=Hive {{!}} janetlofquist |url=http://janetlofquist.com/hive/#1 |access-date=2025-04-29 |website=janetlofquist.com}}
