Delphinoidea is the largest group of toothed whales, including 66 genera in 6 families. The largest living member of the superfamily is the orca, which can reach 6 tons, while the smallest is the vaquita.
Taxonomy
“The Delphinoidea has a diverse taxonomy, with over 35 mammalia taxas. This includes the species of genus Odobenocetops and Odobenus rosmarus{{Cite journal |last1=Muizon |first1=Christian de |last2=Domning |first2=Daryl P. |title=The anatomy of Odobenocetops (Delphinoidea, Mammalia), the walrus-like dolphin from the Pliocene of Peru and its palaeobiological implications |journal=Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society |date=2002 |volume=134 |issue=4 |pages=423–452 |url=https://www.gbif.org/dataset/33418eac-3f41-4da6-94aa-eafa33222a2e |doi=10.1046/j.1096-3642.2002.00015.x |issn=1096-3642}}. While also having two types of genus, they also have individual genomes with about 9 species across the three main families of the Delphinoidea. The three main families of the whale are the Delphinidae, Monodontidae and Phocoenidae.{{Cite journal |last1=Westbury |first1=Michael V. |last2=Cabrera |first2=Andrea A. |last3=Rey-Iglesia |first3=Alba |last4=De Cahsan |first4=Binia |last5=Duchêne |first5=David A. |last6=Hartmann |first6=Stefanie |last7=Lorenzen |first7=Eline D. |date=September 2023 |title=A genomic assessment of the marine-speciation paradox within the toothed whale superfamily Delphinoidea |url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/mec.17069 |journal=Molecular Ecology |language=en |volume=32 |issue=17 |pages=4829–4843 |doi=10.1111/mec.17069 |pmid=37448145 |bibcode=2023MolEc..32.4829W |issn=0962-1083}}”
