The building is protected under Park IV of the Ontario Heritage Act since 1998. The designation notes: "Architecturally, the Dempsey store is a unique example of a rural mid-19th century building constructed in the Georgian Survival style with Neo-Classical influences. Its recent restoration has reintroduced those picturesque architectural elements that were added to the exterior of the building during the closing decades of the 19th century."{{cite act |title=To designate the land and buildings at 250 Beecroft Road as being of architectural and historical value or interest |type=By-law |prefix=No. |index=1998-0812 |language=en |date=October 30, 1998 |legislature=Toronto City Council |url=https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/public-notices-bylaws/bylaws-municipal-code/bylaw-status-registry/search-bylaw-status-registry/#blsrDetails/10596 }}
