Deportivo Recoleta, or simply known as Recoleta, is a Paraguayan association football club from the neighbourhood of the same name, in Asunción; founded in 1931. It will play the Paraguayan Primera División after winning the 2024 Paraguayan División Intermedia championship.

History

Deportivo Recoleta was founded on 12 February 1931 following the merger of the clubs 2 de Julio and Unión Pacífico. It took its name from the neighborhood where the Recoleta church was located, with Juan Gardel as its first chairman.{{cite web |title=Deportivo Recoleta: 75 años de existencia deportiva |trans-title=Deportivo Recoleta: 75 years of sporting existence |url=https://www.abc.com.py/deportes/deportivo-recoleta-75-anos-de-existencia-deportiva-885777.html |publisher=ABC Color |access-date=4 November 2024 |language=es |date=12 February 2006}} In 1941, it bought the plot of land where Estadio Roque Battilana is currently located. The club gained its nickname of Funebrero (undertaker) due to the location of the stadium, as it is located behind the Recoleta Cemetery.{{cite web |title=Los 90 años del Funebrero |trans-title=The Undertaker's 90 years |url=https://www.apf.org.py/espanol/los-90-anos-del-funebrero-4?nid=8404 |publisher=Paraguayan Football Association |access-date=4 November 2024 |language=es |date=12 February 2021}}

The club first competed in the Federación Paraguaya de Deportes (Paraguayan Sports Federation) from 1936 to 1948, in which it won four tournaments in 1938, 1940, 1942 and 1943, joining the Paraguayan Football Association in 1949.

In 1971 Deportivo Recoleta won the Segunda de Ascenso (third tier) championship, earning promotion to the Primera de Ascenso, and in 1997 it became one of the clubs that took part in the first División Intermedia championship, which it won in 2001 allowing them to compete in the Paraguayan Primera División for the first time in history. However, their participation in the top flight was short-lived as they were relegated after just one season, and they were further relegated back to the third tier the following season.

In 2015, both Deportivo Recoleta and Sportivo Ameliano gained promotion from the Primera División C to the Primera División B for the 2016 season,{{Cite web |url=http://www.apf.org.py/noticia/deportivo-recoleta-define-en-casa-frente-al-ameliano-titulo-de-la-primera-c-3684.html |title=APF – Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol |access-date=2015-10-16 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150923183716/http://www.apf.org.py/noticia/deportivo-recoleta-define-en-casa-frente-al-ameliano-titulo-de-la-primera-c-3684.html |archive-date=2015-09-23 |url-status=dead }}{{cite web | url=http://www.abc.com.py/edicion-impresa/deportes/ameliano-y-recoleta-a-la-final-y-ascendidos-a-la-b-1407591.html | title=Ameliano y Recoleta a la final, y ascendidos a la B – Deportes – ABC Color }} with Recoleta defeating Ameliano in the final to win the Primera C title.{{cite web |title=Recoleta es el campeón de la Primera C |trans-title=Recoleta is the Primera C champion |url=https://www.hoy.com.py/deportes/recoleta-es-campeon-de-la-primera-c |publisher=Hoy |access-date=4 November 2024 |language=es |date=27 September 2015}} They competed in Primera B until the 2022 season, in which they won the title as well as promotion back to the División Intermedia after winning 20 matches, drawing eight and losing four for a total of 68 points.{{cite web |title=Recoleta, ascendido a Intermedia, recibió la copa de campeón de la Primera B |trans-title=Recoleta, promoted to Intermedia, received the Primera B champion cup |url=https://www.ip.gov.py/ip/2022/10/22/recoleta-ascendido-a-intermedia-recibio-la-copa-de-campeon-de-la-primera-b/ |publisher=Agencia de Información Paraguaya |access-date=4 November 2024 |language=es |date=22 October 2022}}
